Spring Hill Rain Garden Volunteer Opportunity - Rain Garden

There's an upcoming work day for those who need Master Gardener volunteer hours or who may just want to help. It's a good way to learn about rain gardens too!

LOCATION:   We will meet at the Peter Jenkins Trailhead (corner of Bern Road and Port Royal) in Wyngate Estates.  Please bring gloves, wear work boots and bring water to drink.   Directions from Nashville
Take  I-65 South to Exit 53 Saturn Parkway
To the next off ramp Port Royal exit turn right and go past Kroger
Port Royal turns a hard left after about one mile, keep following it around about a mile when it takes a hard right.  Go across Duplex Road into Wyngate subdivision and follow down to bottom of hill.
Trailhead is on the right hand side of the road.  Follow the paved trail (approx. ¼ mile) to the storm water basin on the right.

Winter Sowing

Winter sowing is a method of starting seeds by using used milk cartons and other recycled plastic containers to plant them up in winter and set them outside to sprout. This cuts down on room in the house taken up by seed containers (handy if your spouse isn't a gardener) and helps some seeds germinate by going through the freeze/thaw cycle.

A friend had a lot of success with this last year so I was potting up a few things and checking out YouTube and thought I would pass this on for inspiration:

Free Admission at Cheekwood

Dear Fellow Gardeners,

I hope you've all had a wonderful holiday, and enjoyed our lovely snowy landscapes;) Just thought I would pass this news along:

Tomorrow in honor of Bill Haslam being elected, numerous places in Nashville like the Frist are offering discounted or even free admission. I was planning on going to Cheekwood anyway to see everything in its snowy splendor (before it all melts next week). I just called their offices to confirm that tomorrow the admission is free and they are open 9:30 to 4:30, with a tour of the mansion at 1PM.

Can't wait to see everyone at the Feb meeting:)

Williamson Master Gardener Classes

The Williamson Master Gardeners are starting their classes next Tuesday, the 18th,  at 6pm at the Ag Center on I-65.  Most, if not all, of the classes will be Tuesdays at 6pm.  Even though they have filled their 100 students, they still have room so they are allowing more in.  If you are interested, please contact them for details:

Christmas PARTY!

Just in time for cold weather - it's CHRISTMAS PARTY TIME!

Our Christmas party will be Saturday Dec.11 at 9:00 AM.

Bring a wrapped gift for the Dirty Santa and keep the gifts around $15. We will have a brunch style meal before the gift giving commences so please bring some food to share!

There are two charities the club will be donating to this year:

• Pet Pals of Maury County
• Police of Spring Hill Share Tree. 

We will have a brief business meeting and elections as well.

Heather's Chicken Fennel Salad

Heather’s Chicken Fennel Salad

• 2 Vegetarian chicken patties, Morning Star Farms or Boca brands
• 1cup Raw asparagus, diced
• 1cup Green fennel, tender stems and leafy fronds, chopped
• 1/4 cup Red onion, finely diced
• Salt, pepper, and mayo to taste
• Bread: Arnold’s Healthy Multi Grain

I brought this to our May meeting prior to the tour.
The measurements are rough estimates since I was
experimenting :) I’m just tickled so many folks
enjoyed it!
